A packaging innovation from Ball Packaging Europe (www.balleurope.com), paves the way for a new generation of beverages geared to sporty, health, and wellnessconscious consumers. Its aluminum beverage container keeps supplements dry until the consumer opens the can. The benefit: Beverages can use vitamins, probiotic additives, and trace elements that must remain dry to retain their nutritional value.

Ball's Fresh Can stores sensitive substances such as vitamins, that degrade quickly in aqueous solutions, inside a plastic wedge-shaped container that is freely suspended inside the can. When the consumer opens the beverage, pressure drops and the end of the wedge springs open to release the dry additives into the drink. And the cans are good for more than just vitamins. Nutritional additives and some pharmaceuticals normally taken in powder or tablet form can now be sold as a fortified drink that's easier to ingest.
