Metal-Filled Acetal is Easy to Find With Metal Sensors

June 5, 2008
Delrin 400MTD acetal from DuPont, Wilmington, Del., is made with a proprietary metal filler and can be detected by most metal sensors used on food-processing conveyors, in the unlikely event of a part’s entry into the process stream.

The resin shares attributes with previous Delrin grades that serve other types of conveyors. The acetal’s low wear and friction let parts run with little or no lubrication. The polymer can replace metal chains and belt links and will run with less noise and last longer. The 400MTD grade complies with FDA Regulation 21-CFR-177.2470. It can be used in components that touch all food types on a repeated basis except those containing more than 15% alcohol and up to 250°F contact temperatures.
