When curators decided to move the Liberty Bell, they turned to Sorbothane Inc., Kent, Ohio (www.sorbothane.com), to design an isolation system for safe transport.

The company created isolation mounts made of Sorbothane polymer sandwiched between steel plates to help prevent the transfer of shock and vibration. In 5 hr, the Liberty Bell safely moved 935 ft on a wheeled carriage outfitted with the isolation mounts.
