The medical industry is by no means immune to the effects of the current recession, as evidenced by job losses and revenue declines across the sector. Nonetheless, many experts see significant opportunities for companies that can deliver innovative products or bolster productivity.

The fact remains that the health-care market is dealing with a growing and aging population, ever-increasing consumer expectations for better care (especially as out-of-pocket expenses rise), and intensifying government pressure for less waste and more efficiency.

Thus, the organizers of the Medical Design & Manufacturing East are emphasizing new developments, improving quality, shortening time to market. The show, to be held June 9 to 11 in New York’s Jacob Javits Convention Center, will let visitors explore new medical-grade materials, assembly hardware, electronic components, and automation controls. They can also get a hands-on look at production equipment, packaging materials and machinery, testing and calibration equipment, and sterilization systems. And in light of the push toward electronic medical records, they can compare medical device, CAD/CAM, and enterprise-wide IT software from various vendors.

A concurrent conference program for professionals engaged in medical related R&D, engineering, and manufacturing will include topics such as streamlining product development, quality systems for small and emerging companies, and risk management for medical devices.

Attendees also gain free admission to four collocated shows: Atlantic Design & Manufacturing, Automation Technology Expo East, EastPack, and Green Manufacturing Expo.
