Sustainable Engineering: LED Indicator Lamp Cuts Power Consumption by 85%

Nov. 6, 2008
A built-in shunt resistor eliminates transient current and keeps the LED from giving a false-positive indication, and has a life of up to 100k hr.  Typical light output is 15 lm, comparable to the 120MB incandescent.

A new LED works directly from 120 Vac and is designed to replace ordinary 120MB-style incandescent indicator bulbs. Designated the 120MBLS-X-CX, the wide-angle LED draws less than 8 mA. Additionally, a built-in shunt resistor eliminates transient current and keeps the LED from giving a false-positive indication.

The LED has a life of up to 100k hr and is available in a variety of colors including red, amber, blue, green, and white. Typical light output is 15 lm, comparable to the 120MB incandescent. The manufacturer, DDP Engineered LED Solutions in El Segundo, Calif., accepts orders that include multiple colors.
