BREAKING IMAGE-RESOLUTION BARRIERS

June 3, 2004
Scientists at FEI Co., Hillsboro, Oreg., have broken the 1-Angstrom image-resolution barrier with a 200-kV transmission-electron microscope (TEM).

Scientists at FEI Co., Hillsboro, Oreg. (www.feicompany.com), have broken the 1-Angstrom image-resolution barrier with a 200-kV transmission-electron microscope (TEM). According to the company, this is the first time images can be viewed with a resolution of less than 1 Angstrom using commercially available technology.

FEI and its German partner CEOS Co. developed advanced electron optics capabilities such as 3D reconstruction with tomography, scanning probe applications, or in situ observation of specimen responses to variations in temperature, stress, or chemical environment, all with sub-Angstrom resolution.
