Neither rain, nor fog, nor sleet thwarts this searchlight

July 24, 2003
A dual-headed searchlight combines UV and halogen lights to help with search and rescue operations.

In clear weather, the halogen lamp has a range of approximately 4,400 yards, while the UV searchlight has a 1,500-yard range. The searchlight, from lighting manufacturer Sunnex Inc., Natick, Mass., projects invisible beams able to cut through obstacles including darkness, rain, fog, and snow. The UV and halogen lights can be lit at the same time or used separately. A patented parabolic reflector with myriad angled steps can focus the halogen light in a wide or narrow beam. Unlimited rotational movement lets the searchlight swivel vertically or horizontally.
