PMMI Announces Winners of the 2025 Technology Excellence Awards

Oct. 1, 2025
Technology Excellence Awards held at Pack Expo Las Vegas 2025 spotlight innovations redefining packaging and processing.

WLS team members attending the Packaging & Processing Women’s Leadership Network (PPWLN) Breakfast at Pack Expo Las Vegas 2025 nudged this reporter in the direction of the West Hall to check out the patented WLS PR-12 and PR-24 Plunger Rod Insertion and Labeling Machine for syringes, which the company was unveiling at the show.

The PR-12 and PR-24 syringe systems from WLS, a ProMach brand, combine high-speed plunger rod insertion with precise labeling in one compact solution. Running up to 600 syringes per minute with patented automated torque regulation (ATR) technology, they ensure seal protection and perfect engagement across syringe sizes from 0.5mL to 5mL.

According to WLS, the new systems are built on proven vacuum drum labeling and set new standards for speed, accuracy and reliability in injectable packaging.

Call it serendipitous, but the WLS syringe systems was also announced as the winner in the Personal Care and Pharma category in this year’s Technology Excellence Awards, administered by PMMI, The Association for Packaging and Processing Technologies.

The annual awards recognize innovative technologies making their debut at the show. Voting takes place live on-site and online during the show.

The winners in the other three other categories are:

Food and Beverage: Senzani U-Seal, Senzani Brevetti SPA

U-Seal by Senzani Brevetti is a cold-sealing innovation that transforms flat blanks into fully recyclable paperboard packs while reducing storage needs and emissions. Running at speeds up to 330 packs per minute, it offers complete design freedom and enhanced safety without heat, all while integrating seamlessly into existing lines.

General Packaging and Processing: HaiPick Climb, Hai Robotics USA

The HaiPick Climb System introduces the HaiClimber, the first robot able to scale standard warehouse racks without custom infrastructure, cutting setup costs and speeding deployment. Using everyday totes and shelves, it delivers direct bin access at speeds up to 4 meters per second, making it 34% faster and more reliable than traditional automated storage and retrieval systems.

Sustainability: Comprex North America, LLC, Floco Process

Comprex is a sustainable clean-in-place technology that uses patented pulsed air and minimal water to clean pipelines and equipment with up to 90% less water and 100 times the cleaning force of a standard flush. Paired with the eco-friendly Viridivis cleaner, it reduces harsh chemicals, downtime and operating costs while extending equipment life—setting a new standard for efficient, chemical-free cleaning.

PMMI noted that this year’s winners each addressed critical needs in the areas of sustainability, automation, digitalization and product safety.
