Comsol Multiphysics Version 4.2a software is for simulating physics-based systems. Included in the new version is LiveLink for Creo Parametric software. LiveLink lets users optimize designs directly in the CAD program. There are also LiveLinks for AutoCAD, Inventor, Pro/Engineer, SolidWorks, and SpaceClaim. In addition, a new image-to-material conversion capability eliminates the need to create geometry. Instead, users can import scanning-electron microscope (SEM), computed tomography (CT), or magnetic-resonance imaging (MRI) images, which the multiphysics software uses to represent 2D material distributions or identify regions with different materials by color or gray scale. Users can even perform certain 3D analyses by importing multiple images representing sections of a 3D structure. Other enhancements include: digital-elevation map (DEM) import of topographical surface data for applications such as fluid flow, structural, or electromagnetic; rapid postprocessing of simulation results using interactive slice and isosurface plots with slider control; and a new electromechanics physics interface in the MEMS Module that combines solid mechanics and electrostatics with a moving mesh to model the deformation of electrostatically actuated structures.
