3D XML Works On The Web And In Office Applications

Nov. 3, 2005
3D XML, an open-standard, lightweight XML-based format, lets manufacturers, suppliers, and customers capture and share accurate and sophisticated 3D data.

With the 3D XML viewer, a CAD file such as this car assembly can be revised and embedded in the user's program of choice — here it's PowerPoint.

3D XML files can be dropped into Web sites, e-mails, PowerPoint presentations, and Word documents. Users download the free player, which delivers IE and Microsoft Office plugins, from 3ds.com/3dxml. They then open the document and click on the embedded image to activate the model. The technology compresses data, resulting in small file sizes.
