Product Spotlight: Smart Gearbox

March 6, 2008
The integration of torque and force sensors directly into servogear reducer housings lets users monitor mechanical loads, including torque, shear force, speed thermal load, wear, and backlash.

This method, called the alphaIQ solution, allows for accurate measurement of torque, axial loading, and radial loading. All variables are displayed on a PC with included software. The technology can be added to any current motioncontrol system and can also be used to close the torque loop of a control system at the output. Machine life can be accurately measured by determining the loads and forces present at the drive mechanism.
