The Open DeviceNet Vendor Association (ODVA), Boca Raton, Fla., offers DeviceNet Detective, a diagnostic and configuration tool for simplifying troubleshooting on the factory floor. The handheld Detective detects and assists in solving network problems by providing a list of devices on the network and giving information about each node including address, baud rate, and messaging attributes. Comprehensive information such as supply voltage and percentage of traffic load is provided. Features include the ability to change network node configuration on or off-line and set baud rates and node addresses. The Detective can identify faulty nodes with a special algorithm, eliminating the need for expensive PCs and software. It can be used instantly and provides information in 90 sec.
