Product Spotlight: Hydrodynamic Pressure Bearings

March 6, 2008
The S99HDPM Series of hydrodynamic pressure bearings consist of seven bearings with IDs ranging from 1 to 6 mm and speeds of 6,000 to 20,000 rpm.

The bearings are formed by stacking “petal-shaped” laminated aluminum-silicon alloy plates. Housed in a stainless-steel case with a polyurea-thickened grease containing antioxidant and anticorrosion additives, the inner faces of the plates act as the bore of the assembled bearing. As the shaft rotates, fluid between the shaft guide and the shaft generates pressure as a result of this “squeeze effect” — a phenomenon of generating pressure to a lubricating membrane in a fluid lubrication when wall faces are close to each other.
