Shell Oil Products US
wants to thank consumers for making its Shell V-Power America’s bestselling premium gasoline by inviting everyone to enter the Shell VPower “Fuel My Passion” Contest and Sweepstakes. Shell V-Power contains the highest concentration of the company’s nitrogenenriched cleaning system, which provides protection against performance-robbing gunk from using lower-quality premium gasolines.

Five lucky consumers who share a story about the passion they have for their ride, will be win the grand prize of free Shell V-Power premium gasoline for a year. Ten finalists will win a $250 Shell Gift Card. All contestants will also be entered into a sweepstakes to win a brand-new 2010 Harley-Davidson Fat Boy® Lo motorcycle, valued at $16,299. Sweepstakes deadline is October 6.

Participants can submit their stories online at www.shell.us/fuelmypassion. Contestants will be required to submit a creative photo, with the contestant giving the “V” sign (symbolizing Shell V-Power) along with their ride (e.g., car, motorcycle, boat, RV, etc.), and a story up to 100 words on “How Shell V-Power fuels their passion for their ride.” Anything that expresses the bond between the contestant and their ride is acceptable, including poems, songs, or “love stories,” as well as how Shell V-Power helps fuel that passion.

There is a limit of one entry per person per category (must be 18 years or older and a U.S. legal resident), which includes:

Modified car — Vehicles upgraded with aftermarket parts and components in order to change or enhance its properties, including styling, audio or performance (includes all tuner and custom cars).

Motorcycle — Open to all types of motorcycles.

Sports/luxury car — Vehicles designed for high speed and power, tight handling and/or luxury, and flashy looks, including coupes and sedans.

Truck or SUV — Includes all sizes.

Other premium rides — Any type of transportation that is driven with passion and fueled by Shell V-Power (e.g., classic car, RV, boat, etc.), but does not fit in the other categories.

Jump at the chance for $250,000
It’s been 30 years since Sikorsky Aircraft Corp. announced a $20,000 prize for its Igor I. Sikorsky Human- Powered Helicopter Competition. The prize, which goes to the first human- powered helicopter that can hover 10 ft or more off the ground for 60 sec, has never been claimed. Sikorksy recently raised the kitty to a whopping $250,000.

The best efforts to date were by Prof. Akira Naito of Nihon University in Japan, with a flight that lasted 19.46 sec at an altitude of just over 6 in., and a CalTech team who got into the air for 8 sec at a height of 8 in.

The competition is overseen by the American Helicopter Society International. Go to www.vtol.org/awards/hph.html for more details.
