Wide, Soft-Magnetic Alloy Strips

Feb. 17, 2005
Hiperco 50 and 50-HS alloys come in strip widths up to 12.5 in. (320 mm) and thickness up to 0.02 in. (0.5 mm).

These wider strips let designers increase power and reduce the weight of highspeed electrical motors, generators, alternators, and magnetic bearings. Hiperco 50 is known for its high magnetic saturation, while its 50-HS counterpart boasts higher yield strength (90 versus 65 kpsi for Hiperco 50) for applications such as magnetic bearings with high rotational speeds. Both alloys are iron-cobalt-vanadium, soft-magnetic materials. They feature a magnetic saturation of about 20 kG, high dc maximum permeability, and low dc coercive field strength.
