Automotive Epoxy

Sept. 1, 2005
A structural epoxy with excellent resistance to unleaded gasoline, SC 2002 will replace welding below the automotive fuel-filling port on some 2009 Model cars.

The new capless direct-fill system calls for bonding the funnel to the fuel pipe, providing a tighter, durable seal that prevents fuel vapors from leaking. The single-component adhesive requires no mixing and has excellent thermal stability, corrosion resistance, and gap-filling properties. Because it is heat activated, working time at room temperature is unlimited. At 275°F, fixture time is 1 to 3 min with functional cure in 30 to 40 min.
