Add-on brings calculations to CAD

April 1, 2005
MathInWorks, a Solid-Works add-on, combines the CAD software with a widely used engineering calculation package.

The mechanics of the four-bar linkage can be explored in SolidWorks but the calculations are derived by a Mathcad worksheet.

With MathInWorks, users select a Mathcad worksheet from within their SolidWorks part or assembly file, connect Mathcad variables to model dimensions for input and output, then run the calculation. Instead of being limited to the rows and columns of Excel or other spreadsheet programs, Mathcad's "scratchpad" interface records equations the way they are normally recorded in industry texts, allowing for better documentation of intellectual property. Price: $495.
