from converter Smurfit-Image Pac, Rexdale, Ont. (smurfit-mbi.com), targets prerace beerconsuming crowds. The carton resembles a tire in both its look and feel. The six-sided shape comes from a rolled tube that provides a protective bumper cell around twenty-eight 355-ml cans and allows room for two reinforced carrying points. The bumper cell also creates an area to quickly apply glue and facilitate forming and sealing operations on the case. A large pull-tab gives quick and easy access to the beer and provides a large surface area/placard to print team logos or car numbers. The environmentally friendly corrugated packaging can be recycled in municipal blue-box programs.
