New Product: Solid-state circuit protector

May 8, 2008
A new line of Raychem Circuit Protection PolySwitch devices provides resettable overcurrent protection for car and heavy-truck wire harnesses.

The PolySwitch BD280 bladed contact device has a 2.8-mm form factor for one-to-one replacement of mini-sized fuses and Type II bimetal circuit protection devices in 12-V vehicle systems.

The device features a no-moving parts design with a resistance switching action that latches immediately following an overcurrent tripping condition that causes the resistance of the device to increase to a high value. Latching can also take place at lower battery voltage and low environmental temperatures. The device is available in current ratings of 10, 15, 20, 25, and 30 A.
