Ultralow Density PBDE-Free Epoxy

Oct. 20, 2005
Epocast 1629-A/B epoxy is a two-part syntactic adhesive that contains no octabromodiphenyl ethers (OBDEs) and pentabromodiphenyl ethers (PBDEs) flame retardants.

It self-extinguishes and is for edge reinforcing the honeycomb structures used in aircraft interiors. At ambient temperatures the epoxy has a 70-min gel time and cures in 48 hr with a compressive strength of 3 kpsi. It also cures in 5 hr at 125°F (52°C) and can be sanded or machined to shape.
