Recent advancements in the Magellan motion-control family and its accompanying Pro-Motion and CMotion software tools gives designers one-to-four-axis chipset versions that control brush-dc, brushless-dc, microstepping, and pulse-anddirection motors. The system has parallel I/O, CANbus, serial pointto- point, and serial multidrop host communications. Other features include S-curve, trapezoidal, velocity contouring, and electronic gearing profiles; separately programmable acceleration and deceleration values; velocity, position and acceleration changes on-the-fly, dual-loop encoder inputs, and six-step (Hallbased) and sinusoidal commutation for brushless motors. The system handles speeds up 5 Mpulses/sec and includes an advanced PID filter with velocity and feedforward acceleration control.
