The LTC4070 is an easy-to-use, tiny shunt battery charger system IC for Li-ion/polymer batteries. The system’s 450‑nA operating current charges and protects batteries from unusable very-low-current, intermittent, or continuous charging sources. The unit’s charge current can be boosted from 50 to 500 mA with the addition of an external PMOS shunt device. An internal thermal battery conditioner reduces float voltage to protect Li-Ion/polymer cells at elevated temperatures.

Additional features include 1% float voltage accuracy over full temperature and shunt-current range; pin-selectable float-voltage settings of 4.0, 4.1, or 4.2 V; simple low-voltage load-disconnect application; and low and high battery-status outputs that operate a latch-off function to automatically disconnect the system load from the battery to protect against deep discharge.
