If your company is considering setting up shop in China — and you've been tasked with figuring out how — a new book on the topic may be of help. Thirteen Steps to Manufacturing in China by Bruce Mitchell defines the methodology for establishing a manufacturing operation there. Serving as a comprehensive guidebook, it discusses the advantages and disadvantages of manufacturing in China, outlines specific steps to follow, and prepares readers for spending time in East Asia. It also identifies critical prerequisites, such as where to locate, experiences of other companies, environmental requirements, utility costs, and procedures for establishing a foreign investment company. It then provides the “how to” for sourcing Chinese equipment, importing used or new equipment, and embarking on site construction — from design and building permits through construction and opening.

Bruce Mitchell, senior engineering executive for his company, oversees capital projects associated with strategic business growth, plant expansions, engineering, and environmental initiatives in the U.S. and Asia. He has established global facilities and manufacturing equipment installations in the U.S. and Asia. The 384-page book is available from amazon.com and other booksellers.
