National Instruments, Austin, upgraded its graphical development platform to LabVIEW 8, which improves the productivity of engineers and scientists in design, control, and test settings. This upgrade introduces distributed intelligence for design, distribution, and synchronization of intelligent devices and systems. It also features a project-based environment for managing large-scale applications as well as the latest Express technology for simplified instrument control.

LabVIEW 8 updates real-time, FPGA, PDA, and control modules and data logging.

The updated program can be used in heterogeneous test systems, rapid system prototyping, full-scale system automation and embedded real-time, and FPGA and microprocessor systems.

LabVIEW lets users acquire, analyze, and present measurements at every stage of development, from prototyping to design to manufacturing to testing. The platform is compatible with cameras, motion stages, TEDS-compliant sensors and actuators, OPC-enabled industrial devices and more than 4,000 GPIB, VXI, PXI, PCI, serial, Ethernet and USB-controlled measurement devices. LabVIEW is available on Windows, Macintosh, and Linux operating systems.
