Hospital patients will have more mobility and independence using a newly designed chair called the Flotech Adjuster from Medical Support Systems (MSS) Ltd. in the U.K.

Typical ward-chair design doesn't take into consideration the surrounding seating in a medical environment and patient nursing needs. With the help of clinical specialists from a variety of disciplines and the University of Wales Institute, MSS aims to change this with its newfangled adjustable chair. Built using a combination of metal fabrication, tube bending, vacuum forming, and injection molding, it is available as manual and hydraulic or electric. Patients can adjust for height and backward and forward tilt. An ergonomically contoured backrest and a special pressure-reducing cushion add comfort.
