Laser Targets 3D Measurements

Jan. 6, 2005
The Laser Tracker X is a portable 3D measuring system that uses laser technology to measure large-scale parts, tooling, and machinery.

The system measures XYZ coordinates with its laser by following a handheld, mirrored spherical probe. High-accuracy angular encoders use special capabilities to report the 3D position of the probe in real time. This eliminates the need for an interferometer so distance measurements can be taken without mode switching. The beam can be immediately relocated should an obstacle come between the beam and probe. Accuracy is specified up to 0.001 in. with a 230-ft range. The system features an instant-on laser for immediate measuring. A single-button press eliminates the previously time-consuming and user-intensive compensation process.
