Power PMAC lets designers choose between built-in motion and PLC algorithms or providing their own software written in C or C++ compiled with a GNU compiler

The Power PMAC lets designers choose between built-in motion and PLC algorithms or providing their own software written in C or C++ compiled with a GNU compiler. In addition, designers can add a hard disk, video card, and keyboard to the PMAC to create a complete PC system.

Using an embedded Power PC processor, the base configuration provides 0.5, 1, or 2 Gbyte of active DDR memory with error correction and 512 Mbyte of user Flash memory. The system incorporates 100Base-T or 1000Base-T Ethernet ports, along with USB-2 interfaces, eliminating the need for a backplane bus interface. A built-in Web server lets any computer equipped with a Web browser communicate with the Power PMAC directly or through a network connection supporting HTTP and FTP protocols.

The PMAC’s built-in script language takes care of proper timing and pipelining of move sequences and provides automatic type matching of different variables such as short word, long- word, fixed point, and floating point. The online commands permit direct interaction with the controller on a command-line basis. The system can replace a Turbo PMAC CPU board in a UMAC rack-mounted controller and use all of the interface accessory boards in the rack.
