Bolt-on brakes

Bolt-on brakes for small frame assemblies are spring set and have a clamp-collar fitting for quick assembly.

Features & benefits

  • Can be easily mounted on most standard stepper and servomotors without custom components or special engineering

  • Furnished with built-in shaft that readily accepts a gearbox, pulley, or other parts

  • Available for 17, 23, 34, and 42 frame sizes and metric sizes

Magnetic brakes, clutches

Magnetic particle brakes and clutches produce smooth, infinitely adjustable slip torque.

Features & benefits

  • Brakes for unwind tensioning and load simulation; clutches for rewind tensioning and torque limiting

  • Torque is varied from near zero to rated torque by adjusting input current

  • 5 oz-in. to 300 lb-ft units, with heat dissipation to 1900 W, continuous duty

  • Hysteresis brakes for low torque, wide speed applications

  • Cog-buster and frictionless design ensures smooth, accurate slip torque

Ball screw brake

Spring-engaged, ball screw brake ensures quick, precise braking and holding in ball screw applications.

Features & benefits

  • Serves as a primary or redundant brake to prevent ball screws from back driving during mechanical problem or power loss

  • Low backlash and high accuracy

  • Expanding shaft/clamping hub coupling easily connects brake to most ball screws

  • Five sizes with 20 to 1,100 lb-in. holding torque

  • Operates as vertical and horizontal

Spring-applied brakes

Spring-applied brakes have reduced internal components to simplify design and reduce cost and length for servo, robotic, and ballscrew applications.

Features & benefits

  • Hub and disk are one piece; contact occurs on only one side of disk, so when brake is released there is no drag, no contact, and no noise

  • MCDB series offers torques of 4.5 to 18 lb-in. in a 2 to 3 in. diameter

  • FNB series offers torques of 10 to 70 lb-in. in a 3 to 4.5 in. diameter

  • Single face engagement and disengagement means quick torque build-up and quick release

  • Elimination of brake cover plate reduces length to smallest possible

Fail-safe brakes

Line of fail-safe brakes suits aerospace applications because they offer a high torque to size ratio.

Features & benefits

  • Sizes from less than 1.0 to more than 5.0 in.

  • Torques from less than 1 to more than 500 lb-in.

  • Speeds to 20,000 rpm

  • Varied voltages

  • Mount from either direction
