Protective shield

Oct. 20, 2005
The Fire Panel protective shield, from FIRE Panel LLC, Scottsdale, Ariz., uses a blend of Noryl resins to dampen impact-reduced vehicle fires.

Noryl was chosen for the shield, which contains a powdered fire-extinguishing agent, because its mechanical properties would shatter upon significant impact, yet maintain its integrity under normal operating conditions. The lightweight resin blend supports vehicle fuel efficiency, sufficient impact and chemical resistance to prevent damage under normal operating conditions, and the ability to propagate the energy of a strong impact throughout the panel for uniform release of the fire-suppression agent.
