Ultrasoft TPEs

June 7, 2006
Monprene thermoplastic elastomers (TPEs) are based on hydrogenated styrenic block copolymers.

They provide a combination of softness and optical clarity. This lets designers of personal care, medical, and orthopedic products add softer (30 to 60 Shore 00) grips and clearer finishes. A typical formulation, Monprene MP-1238D, features a 50 Shore 00 hardness, a specific gravity of 0.88, a 300-psi (2.1 MPa) tensile strength, 40-psi (0.14 MPa) tensile modulus, 700% ultimate elongation, and a melt index (condition C) of 20 gm/10 min.
