In many industries, including chemicals, ceramics, plastics, and foods, an important part of manufacturing and processing is to separate dry or wet materials by size. Thanks to engineers at Eriez, Erie, Pa., this is done automatically using a gyratory screen separator, the Syncro-Sizer.

It is powered by any commercially available electric motor with speeds ranging from 950 to 1,450 rpm. The motor powers a motion generator through a variable-speed pulley, isolating it from the any motion. Operators can fine-tune the motion generator's vertical and horizontal strokes to adjust the separation process. Adjusting dual eccentric weights on the screening cage lets users control the flow pattern and speed of materials which directs them to different discharge outlets. The machine can separate materials ranging in size from 6 mm to 40 mesh.
