IMTS Puts Technology on Display in Long-Awaited Return

Sept. 6, 2022
The showcase event offers something for everyone when it opens Sept. 12.

The International Manufacturing Technology Show (IMTS) opens its doors for the first time in four years on Sept. 12, and the plan is to open the doors very wide.

The traditional machine tool industry innovations on which IMTS was created? There will be plenty of laser, CNC and metalforming tools as part of the estimated 1 million square feet of display space at Chicago’s McCormick Place during the week-long IMTS event.

A look at the latest in 3D printing and additive manufacturing systems, as well as the software that connects additive with subtractive manufacturing? Right there on the show floor as well.

An in-depth exploration of the future of manufacturing, both in terms of technology and people? That’s a core part of IMTS, through its Smartforce Student Summit, as well as the Hannover Messe USA pavilion that is a large part of the IMTS presentation.

As IMTS returns from a four-year hiatus, the plan is to provide a wide array of product solutions and industry-leading speakers to help manufacturing continue its advancement to a digital, interconnected future. The biennial event from Sept. 12-17, postponed in 2020 due to COVID concerns, will come back as a show squarely focused on offering an array of content for attendees.

Among the more intriguing events on Day One will be the Emerging Technology Center (ETC), presented by the Association of Manufacturing Technology (AMT), the presenting association for IMTS. Among the displays at the ETC will be a section of the 23-foot-tall Rosenberg Space Habitat, the world’s tallest 3D-printed polymer structure. The ETC will also feature live demonstrations of the robotic 3D printing technology used to make the space habitat.

The ETC is located on the Grand Concourse of McCormick Place and the entrance to the North Building.

The Smartforce Student Summit brings together students from schools, Scout troops, robotics teams and STEM clubs to look at IIoT technology and the shape of the future workforce needed to realize its potential.

Registration for IMTS  includes access to all six days of IMTS, nine technology pavilions, and the co-located HANNOVER MESSE USA show.
