The Bay 2000 woodburning fireplace insert from Energy King, Chippewa Falls, Wis., uses catalytic combustion to regulate the air/fuel mixture throughout the burn cycle.
Its dual catalytic combustors ignite and burn gases rather than let them exit the chimney as pollution. By burning these gases the insert gets more heat from the wood, according to the company, The unit’s overall efficiency can be as high as 78.5%, and certified emissions as low as 2.5 gm/hr.
