LightForm lights can be made with just 2% of the material used in traditional LED lamps, says manufacturer Grote Industries, Madison, Ind. The technology lets LEDs be embedded within a flexible clear, opaque or colored film. The resulting lamps meet photometric requirements of FMVSS 108, the regulation governing the performance of automotive exterior lamps and reflective devices. Lamps with a P2 SAE lens code rating can be stuck on with adhesive, eliminating the installation cost and time associated with drilling holes, affixing mounting brackets and using traditional fasteners. The lighting material can also be made in strips several feet long.
