Externally threaded fasteners with locking devices use the same techniques as locknuts. Prevailing-torque locking screws employ distorted threads, interference fits, inserts, or a chemical adhesive coating. Free-spinning locking screws and bolts have a locking feature incorporated into the head, or an additive on the threads.
