Detailed Motor Search Tool Offers a Customized Approach

Nov. 19, 2015
Searching for the right motor for your application? A new intuitive search tool makes shopping for a motor actually… fun? Well, easy, at least.

A new motor search tool developed by Groschopp lets users input design parameters to find Groschopp motors that will best suit their application. The user can choose between dc, ac, brushless, and universal motors. (General capabilities of each motor type are reviewed in the links provided on Groschopp’s product page.)

After selecting the appropriate motor type, the search tool adjusts parameters so that users can choose the motor’s available voltage ratings, gearboxes, and phase. Then users can customize the speed, torque, or power ranges. Product results are listed below the search tool as users customize their search. Groschopp also provides a site for customization processes.

The site also includes a STP (speed, torque, power) calculator to convert between English and metric units. It also can calculate torque based on speed and power, or vice versa. Educational videos, blogs, and whitepapers, also available on the site, aid in understanding motor apps. Everything is mobile-friendly and readable on all browsers.

Using Groschopp as an Educational Tool

First of all, I must admit that I am a little rusty in my knowledge about motors and their uses. So before I went to the search tool, I did a little bit of research on Groschopp’s product page. The page includes links to the four different types of motors offered by Groschopp: dc, ac, brushless, and universal. I followed the link for each type to get a brief overview of the motor’s capabilities and uses in different applications. Other links describe Groschopp’s gearboxes, motor controls, components, and customization processes. After the research, I started to dig into the search tool.

For educators: Here is a rough idea for a lesson plan in makers/engineering courses. Start your pupils out on the product page so that they can learn the benefits of each motor type in different applications. Incorporate the reading into your lesson plans and give examples of product designs that may benefit from each motor type. Then, have the students choose an application, create design parameters, and use the search tool to find the best motor for their design.
