50-Ton Grinder Expands Linear-Guide Production

July 10, 2008
Bishop-Wisecarver Corp., Pittsburg, Calif., recently added a 50?ton, 5.5-m, X-axis travel grinder that can machine parts up to 4.5-m long (14.8 ft).

The grinder, a Mgerle MGC-L-55035.45, is currently dedicated to the company’s UtiliTrak linear guides which are made in 3.6-m lengths out of steel or aluminum channels. The grinder has an articulating head that is said to improve productivity without hurting quality. There’s also a hidden dresser in the grinding wheel which eliminates the long interruptions normally seen with fixed tablemounted dressers.
