Scanning for ideas: Gear Reducer can Take the Abuse

May 22, 2008
Dodge MagnaGear XTR gear reducers from Baldor Electric Co., Fort Smith, Ark. (baldor.com), provide torque up to 920,000 lb-in. in parallel-shaft or right-angle configurations.

In sizes over 390,000 lb-in., the reducer uses a planetary design to keep the footprint and weight down yet retain durability. Its heavy-duty cast-iron housing and carburized, hardened and ground gears let it meet or exceed AGMA and international standards. Dual HBNR lip seals protect the gears from contaminants. All the bearings exceed AGMA standards for L10 life. And a complete line of engineered accessories is available, including cooling systems, rigid couplings, torque arms, and baseplates.
