Using synchronous swing motion, the 40-taper, 24-pocket Dual Arm automatic tool changer (ATC) picks up a new tool and old tool simultaneously, making tool changes with one continuous and smooth motion. Toolto-tool change time is 1.9 sec. The Dual Arm ATC handles 3-in.diameter tools that are 15 in. long and weigh up to 15 lb. An enclosed tool carriage eliminates runout caused by chips and coolant. A locking drawbar delivers 2,000 lb of force and holds the tool in place under severe cutting conditions.
