Machine-tool bearings

Nov. 4, 2004
X-Life Ultra machinetool bearings reportedly boost running speeds by 25%, double corrosion resistance, and last 10 X longer than conventional hybrid 52100 and 440 steel/ ceramic bearings.

The design combines rings made from Cronidur 30 — a special high-nitrogen steel developed for use in critical aerospace applications — and ceramic (silicon-nitride) balls with a phenolic cage, a high-speed thermally stable grease, and integral seals. Designed to meet the speed, load, and reliability requirements of high-speed machining centers, the bearings are available in standard and application-specific sizes and in bore diameters from 20 to 120 mm.
