Buck Converter IC

Jan. 6, 2005
The SPI-8010A is a high-efficiency (94%), adjustable-output, 3-A buck converter IC, available in an HSOP16 package with enhanced thermal-dissipation capability.

The package's special ground-potential slug enables connection to a widely available ground plane on a PCB for better thermal dissipation. The integrated N-Channel DMOSFET improves system efficiency, and 1-V internal reference voltage enables 1 V and above output-voltage conversion. The soft-start function minimizes input in-rush current to avoid voltage dip on the input-voltage rail, which interferes with other key peripheral-device performances, while the thermal and overcurrent protections enhance overall system-level reliability. The PWM frequency is 250 kHz.
