New data released by the Packaging Machinery Manufacturers Institute (PMMI), based on U.S. Census estimates, shows strong growth in packaging machinery exports. From January through November 2006, U.S. exports increased 7% compared to 2005, totaling $783 million. Packaging machinery imports increased by 6%. According to PMMI, growth can be traced to end users adding capacity for product introductions and new package designs, as well as new machine models featuring state-of-the-art technology replacing older equipment.
