Manfred Wittenstein receives top honor

On Friday, September 23, top business leaders were honored at Germany's prestigious 15th annual “Entrepreneur of the Year” competition. Dr. Manfred Wittenstein, president of the Wittenstein Group, Igersheim, Germany, won the award in the Industry category. The jury notes that Dr. Wittenstein inherited a small sewing machine business and turned it into a premier manufacturer of drive technology, citing him as a visionary among machine builders. The global competition is organized by Ernst & Young and seeks to honor extraordinarily successful business people on a national level around the world. Astron represents Gore cable assemblies

PI acquires miCos GmbH

PI (Physik Instrumente L. P.), Auburn, Mass., has acquired a majority share of micropositioning and motion-control specialist miCos GmbH in Eschbach, Germany. PI is a manufacturer of precision motion-control equipment, piezosystems, piezomotors, and actuators for photonics, bionanotechnology, medical engineering, and semiconductor applications.

Kleiss Gears exhibits at BIOMEDevice

Polymer gear designer Kleiss Gears Inc., Grantsburg, Wis., will exhibit at booth 1203 at BIOMEDevice, taking place in San Jose, December 6 and 7. Kleiss will discuss the special design and production issues of plastic gears in medical devices. Senior design engineer, Mike Weiss, will present a session called Precision Gearing for Medical Devices on December 6 at 1:10 p.m. at booth 801.
