Nanoparticle-reinforced polymers - Polymedex Discovery Group

Nano-particles boost flexural modulus for medical applications.

Pebax PEBA block co-polymers contain 9% by weight nanoparticles that are less than 1 nm thick and about 5,000 nm long. The particles interact with the polymer matrix for oriented reinforcement at the molecular level and flexural modulus double that of the unfilled polymer.
Nano-scale reinforcement boosts flexural modulus while preserving elasticity, impact resistance, downstream processability, and biocompatibility. Greater flexural modulus permits smaller-diameter catheters with the properties required for precise medical applications.
