Injectable Plastic Can Replace Lead

June 2, 2005
Gravi-Tech polymer-metal composites are thermoplastic-based alternatives to lead and other traditional metals.

The compounds use a variety of metallic fillers to replicate densities of traditional metals. The materials are easily used with conventional molding and extruding equipment. Custom formulations can be developed for a wide range of parameters such as density up to 11 gm/cm3. In addition, substituting polymer-metal composites for lead in radiation shielding avoids regulatory, disposal, and employee-exposure issues associated with lead. The material is manufactured in North America but can be purchased from any company sales office throughout the world.
