Output Ripple Attenuator

May 19, 2005
Active filtering reduces supply output ripple and noise in the QPO-2 System-in-a-Package (SiP) by over 30 dB from 1 to 500 kHz.

The QPO-2 lets designers optimize attenuation versus power dissipation or transient load response based on application requirements. The device's 0.3 to 5.5-Vdc output range requires an external input bias voltage for proper operation. Compatible with most switching power supplies and converters, the QPO-2 regulates loads using either a remote-sensing feature of a converter or an adjust pin that corrects the converter's output voltage to compensate for headroom voltage drop of the filter. The filter's headroom setting reduces the capacitance needed at the converter output for equivalent transient performance and ripple reduction. Packaged in antistatic tubes, the QPO-2 measures 25 25 4.5 mm with LGA mounting. Target applications include test and measurement, distributed point-of-load power systems, sensors requiring low-noise power, and medical instrumentation.
