Heavy-Duty Motors from Weg Withstand Crusher Duty

Nov. 17, 2009
Heavy-duty motors from Weg withstand crusher duty.

Three-phase crusher-duty motors from Weg, Suwanee, Ga. (www.weg.net/us), generate from 50 to 500 hp and have exceptionally high starting and breakdown torque, according to the company. The motors can be mounted vertically or horizontally and are totally enclosed and fan cooled. They operate in temperatures up to 104°F ambient and are rated IP55. Although targeted for use in jaw, roller, impact, and gyratory crushers, they are also well suited for belt feeders and conveyors.

The motors use 280 to 230/460 or 460 V, have a service factor of 1.15, and use one thermistor/phase for all frames. All frames have Class F insulation. The motors can use a variety of starting methods, including wye-delta, across line, and part winding (12 leads). The motors are painted with a synthetic enamel that exceeds the ASTM B117 salt-spray test requirements.
