Using Brushed DC Motors as Generators
There are several reasons to consider using brushed DC motors as generators in particular applications, notes Sunil Kedia of Portescap in a new Machine Design article.
“Brushed DC motors are less expensive than miniature generators even though they both perform the same function,” Kedia writes. “Brushed DC motors also offer a wide range of options to address specific application needs. And brushed DC motors are particularly well-suited for applications that require voltage as an input without a power source.”
Considering all the options for any application is the hallmark of effective design. Kedia’s article points to some new consideration for a legacy technology.
