L.J. Star, Twinsburg, Ohio, a company that makes process-observation equipment, will now use a tougher grade of PTFE, Gylon 3504 from Garlock Sealing Technologies, Palmyra, N.Y., in all of its sight glasses and flow indicators. For equipment involved with food, the company will use Bio-Lok, an FDA and USP Class VI compliant, modified PTFE from Garlock. The new materials handle higher temperatures and resist a wider range of chemicals. And gaskets made from them are easier to install and replace, and don’t need to be retightened to handle working conditions.
