The Lumiclad black-oxide process forms a durable satin-black finish on aluminum alloys.

The Lumiclad black-oxide process forms a durable satin-black finish on aluminum alloys. The 1.5-μm coating can be applied in 30 min, and it maintains part dimensions. The process competes with black anodizing without using electrolytic chemicals or electrical current. Instead, a dip-tank setup runs at 70 to 200°F. Rinse water is ion-exchange purified.
